OVERSEAS CLUB.
CHRISTOHUROH BRANCH.
The monthly meeting of the ChrtFtchurch branch of tho Overseas Club was held in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce last night, Dr Jennings presiding. Tho chairman stated that since the previous meeting lady members of the club had done valuable work in collecting for patriotic purposes. He hoped that thcv would give tbeir services for tho "Our Day" appeal. There had been communication with the New Zealand Club as to amalgamation with the Overseas Club. There were difficulties in the way, but be believed that they could be overcome, and he was not pessimistic as to the outcome of the proposal. Tho secretary (Mr T. M. Charters) stated that copies had bpen received or a pampMet bv Mr Richard Jebb. entitled "The Overseas Club. "What it is and what it Stands For." Since the club was founded, about fivp years azo. it had enrolled about 200,000 supporters. A discussion took place on the lint of operations the club should follow, and Mr E. D. Hoben suggested thar an annual patriotic demonstration should be inaugurated by the club. Tho secretary stated amidst applause that at tho last monthly meeting the membership was seventy; now it wa<= •210. He sa ; d that it was desirable to maintain that rate of progress. All Britishers with impsrialistc ideas should b-> ur<Ti-d to join the club. Mr H. W. 'Candy &ugested that the club should carry its propaganda into the schools, and the suggestion wa= suported by the chairman and others. The chairman announced that the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) had been elected president of the branch.
