LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. TUESDAT, JUI.T 25. AFTERNOON SITTING. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. After the transaction of formal business, the Council adjourned.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
* Tuesday, Jult 25. AFTERNOON SITTING. The House met at 2.30 p.m. FIRST READING. The Legislative Act Amendment Bill was received from the Council and read a first time.
PARADE OF TROOPS. At 245 p.m. the House adjourned, on the suggestion of the Prime Minister, till 4.15 to enable members to witness a march past of the troops.
SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF WAR. Replying to Mr Sykes, the Prime Minister stated that the Government did not intend to ask the public to observe a holiday on August 4, but were asking local bodies to call meetings on that day and pass resolutions similar to those passed last year. NEW ZEALAND MEAT. The Prime Minister laid on the table a statement showing the prices paid tor New Zealand surplus meat purchased by the Board of Trade and sold in LonThe House adjourned at 5.30 p.m.
EVENING SITTING. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m NATIVE LANDS.
An amendment to the Native Lands and Maori Councils Act was introduced by Governor's message. The Hon W. H. Hemes said he proposed to refer the Bill to the Native Affairs Committee. It was the Native "Washing-up" Bill. The Bill was read a first time. MILITARY SERVICE BILL. An amendment to tho Military Service Bill was brought down by Governor's message. It provides for compulsory inoculation or vaccination it such is considered by medical officers necessary to render a man fit tor military service. ~ ~ , ~ • The Hon J. Allon said that this pro, vision was overlooked when the BUI was before the House, and he thought everyone would be agreed that it was necessary to close this door to the shirkThe amendment was agreed to.
WAR LEGISLATION. The Prime Minister moved the second reading of the War Legislation Amendment Bill. . . . After a debate, which is reported m another column, the motion was carried. ' The House rose at 11.00 p.m.
