LORD KITCHENER.

LOCAL TRIBUTES. Before proceeding with the business *f the special meeting of the Ellesmere County Council on Thursday evening the chairman (Air J. Cunningham) made reference to the loss the Empire had sustained in the death of Lord Kitchener, and also touched upon the recent naval battle. It was impossible, ho said, to Say at present cow great a man Lord Kitchener really was,' but the historian of the future, who would be able to see tho events of to-day in their true perspective, would probably say he was one of the greatest men tho Empire had ever produced. On the speaker’s motion the following resolution was carried:—“That this council expresses its feelings of sorrow at the loss tho Empire has sustained in the death of Lord Kitchener, and its appreciation of the splendid services he rendered, especially in organising our national defences, also it 3 sorrow at the loss of so many brave men who so worthily upheld the best traditions of tho British Navy in the recent battle of Jutland.” i At a meeting of the Loyal Orango ‘Lodge in the Orange Hall on Tuesday the following resolution was passed in silence :—“We, tho members of the Loyal Orange Institution, Christchurch district and* friends in meeting assembled, express our sincere regret at the loss the Empire has sustained by the death of Lord Kitchener, and our admiration of the fact that the British Navy in the North Sea has maintained its best traditions.
