GARDEN PARTY AT HOSPITAL • GROUNDS. ABOUT £l3O REALISED. The nursing staff of the Christ church Hospital hold a pardon party in the wound* of tho institution on baturday afternoon, on behalf ot the Soldiers' Queen, and tho proceeds of the function wilLbe devoted to-furthering the interests of that candidate in tho coming Queer, election. Tho weatner was ideal, and the beautiful wounds were a picture. The recent rain -had quickened plant life and freshened the trees, the lawns were beautifully green, and the flower beds charming. The function was arranged and car; ried out entirely by the nursing staff of the Hospital, under, tho direction of tho lady superintendent, Miss' TJurp-. ton. The members of the staff ad devoted all their spare tune to. na king, the party a success, and they had been exceedingly fortunate, Miss, Thru* on told a representative ot this iouuuU, and article* suitable tor disposal fee of all cost. The nursing staff wished to thank the many friends who had so kindlv contributed in this way. Miss 'Thurston also remarked that the Rising Maff wished to thank the Hospital Board for the use of the grounds. Under the shade of the s and chestnuts' -were placed tho semai stalls, and in the open were.theAenmj, courts, where also was arranged tte sports department. About the g, ounds were to be seen many returned wound; ed soldiers, some who were still hoSpi. tat cases, and quite a number ot_ men who have enlisted and are about to proceed to the front. Two local baands -the Tramways and >\ opteton-sUP plied music, which enhanced the jojousness of the occasion. By three o'clock the grounds presented a- \eij busy appearaance, what with games tennis, sports, band music, a . mm court/ and the insinuating, endeaj-purs of the many ladiw, to obtain funds ioi the Soldiers' Queen. The function was continued until seven o clock m t'ie evening. , -n i.„ Tho expenses of the party wil be practically nil, and it is antacipated that the ' Soldiers' Queen will receno about £l3O towards her election as a result of the function.
