SOLDIERS' GRIEVANCES.
At a meeting of [returned soldiers in Wangamri, it was made clear that they have a host of- grievances, and for the most part, says the "Herald," they are genuine ones." All through- the meeting the Patriotic Committee members were assailed- with questions regarding pav, messing allowances, money for have got but "had not, which made it perfectly plain that there had been some bungling somewhere. One man produced his pay book, and said M had not been squared up since April, while several others had not received any pay for, some, length . of [time.. Others complained .'that thejr had not received any "of '"the', hospital comforts foi^'which ttfEgypt. while • others, again, complained that, they' left the hospital' without '-money, nor' could' they get any.: One man who, came back on the Maheno exhibited a trashy little Christmas stocking, tho cost of which could not be more than a halfpenny. He said that that was what he got for his share of the money which had -been , sent to the ship for Christinas-'VomfoVrS' for : the men. 1 * Th* stocking contained half a dozen lolliCß of an inferior quarrty, a little toy. and some.other .articles which a. child of five would' consider beneath his dignity to play with. Yet this kind of thing was given to men who had taken part in some of' the fiercest fighting known to history. .....
