SIR. JOHN ANDERSON APPOINTED

“ Times " and Sydney " Sun ” Services. LONDON, December 1.

Sir John Anderson, of the Colonial Office, has been appointed Governor of Ceylon. Sir George Vandeleur Fiddes, Assistant. Under-Secretary for the Colonies, will succeed Sir John Anderson.

(Sir John Anderson has been permanent Under-Secretary for the Colonics since 1911. He was born iu Aberdeenshire in 1858, and was educated in Aberdeen. Ho was attached to tho staff of the Behring Sea Arbitration in 1892-3, and was secretary to tho conference. of colonial Premiers with Mr Chamberlain iu 1897, and the conference in 1902. He accompanied the Priuce of Wales on his colonial tour, and was Governor of Straits Settlements and High Commissioner of the Federated Malay States 1904-11. Ho was knighted iu 1913. Sir George Fiddes has been assistant Under-Secrc-tnrv since 1909. He was at one time secretary to the Etfrl of Onslow, and was secretary to the. High Commissioner of Sor/.h Africa. (Lord Milner) from 1897 to 19(H). He was knighted iu 1912.)
