SHIRLEY AND BURWOOD RED CROSS WORKING GUILD. A most successful *mle of home-mad® dainties was held at Shirley by the members of the Shirley and Burwood Rod Cross Working Guild, to raise money for purchasing materials to make garments for the wounded at tho base hospitals. Od*» member lent her house and garden for the purpose, and a marquee was erected for the produce and a small tont for the fortune-teller. Tho Vho’o district had been canvarsed for |pfts, and there was a very liberal response. Fruit and vegetables, cakes and sweets, pies and pastry, poultry, petted meat, cooked ham and. sucking pig. and all kinds of dainties were for sale; and found ready buyers. Tea was served by willing helpers, and little girls sold sweets in the garden. A pony, ak«o n gift, waited quietly in one part of tho garden, while <t guessing competition was going on to decide his ownership. A largo iced cake wes to fall to the lot of the one who could gues? the correct weight. A shooting gallery aleo did good business. Tho total proceeds amounted to £76. Tho members of the guild wish to thank all those who to kindly sent donations . and gifts.
