[Fkou Our Corrib fondest*.) GLENTUNNEL. The anniversary of the Loyal Coleridge Lodge, J.0.0.F., M.U., Glentunnel, was celebrated by a euchre party and dance, which was well attended. The first prizes for tho cuchro were won by Mrs Hunt and Mr H. Smith, and tho booby prizes were won by Miss hi. Morgan and Mr Simister. The dance music was supplied by Mrs Wilson. Mr W. Tcalo acted as secretary.

SOUTHBROOK. Tho quarterly rally of the North Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union was held in the Soulhbrook Methodist Sunday Schoolroom on Tuesday, April Mr 0. R Thwaites, president of the union, presided, and there wero about eighty members present, representatives attending from the Kaiapoi (Baptist and Methodist), Rangiora, Oxford and Horrelville Societies An address was given by Mr Cummings (Oxford) on “ Tho Holy Spirit at Pentecost,". the subject being continued by many of the members. . A musical item, which was much appreciated, was given by Miss Norrish (Kaiapoi Baptist Society).

ASHBURTON. Tho final in connection with the Junior Flag croquet competition was played oh the Ashburton Domain on Tuesday between the local club and Timarti. The home toam won by 10 gamps to 1. The annual meeting of the Ashburton Old. Boys’ Football Club was held on Tuesday evening, when Mr D. Friedlander presided. The report and bal-ance-sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of £2 6s 7d. wero adopted. It was decided to donate £1 Is in support of the Sports Queen. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr AY. F. Walters; president, Mr D. Friedlander j vice-presidents, Messrs G. H. Buchanan, R. Galbraith, J. Stewart, E. T. Norris, J. Trevor Thomas, R. G. Shearman. J. B Christian, G. H. Scott and R. B. Boll; captain, Mr R. Jones; vice-captain Mr C. L. Coe; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. M’Rae; committee, Messrs L. M’llwraith, A. Macdonald, J. S. Church, H. Freoth and E. N. T Rceco; delegate to the Rugby Union, Mr'.Reece. Ton now meinhers were olected. It was decided to change the colours from black jersey and white collar to blaok jersey and old gold collar. Tho first of the winter gatherings in connection, with tho Ashburton County Scottish Society was held in the Orangt Hall on Monday evening, when duel Robert Bell presided. There was a largo attendance, and Chieftain the Rev AV. C. Blair gave an address on the life and work of Sir AValter Scott. Tho address was interspersed with a number of songs sung by Mrs Craighead, Miss \\ r i«hart, Messrs Craighead, Gardner and Blair. Tho accompaniments were played by Mesdames Craighead and Blair.

TEMUKA. On Sunday evening tho choir members of St Joseph’s Church, Temuka, assembled at the presbytery to make a presentation to Miss E. Spring, who has been organist in that church for a numbers of years. Tho Rev Father Iverley, in presenting Miss Spring with a silver and crystal salad bowl, referred in eulogistic terms to her excellent service as organist, and he assured her of . the bast wishes of the choir mofiibers and himself for her future happiness.

A meeting of the Upper Orari River Board was held in the Road Board office, Temuka, on Tuesday; present— Messrs Donald Grant (chairman), AV. F. Evans, T. Harrison. AV. Mason, C. Mackenzie and J. M’Donald. Tho board resolved, on the motion of Mr M’Donald, seconded by Mr Harrison, “ That an appeal be entered against tho Magistrate’s decision in tho case against James Kehnan, and that Messrs Tripp and Rolleston be authorised to sign all papers and documents in regard to such appeal, and that a sunf of £l7 10s bo paid into the Magistrate’s Court, Temuka, ns security for such, appeal.” Tho overseer reported tha)> lie had inspected the protective fenccfe erected last winter and the willows were looking very well considering the dry weather. In one particular place there were about sixty willows dead, this place being drier than anywhere else. He did not propose doing anything with them at present. The credit balance at the bank amounted to £279 19s sd, and the rates outstanding were:—General £sl 18s 7d, special £ll 10s 3d.
