After terrifio fighting between Peronne and Saint Quentin, the German right appears to hare been turned. The Germans occupied Peronne on September 16, holding a strong position, with, hills behind and marshes in front of them. The French were ordered to take the position, at all costs, and they shelled the German trenches with their artillery. The Germans stubbornly held their guns, on the heights, doing Bevere execution among the French.
