After terrifio fighting between Peronne and Saint Quentin, the German right appears to hare been turned. The Germans occupied Peronne on September 16, holding a strong position, with, hills behind and marshes in front of them. The French were ordered to take the position, at all costs, and they shelled the German trenches with their artillery. The Germans stubbornly held their guns, on the heights, doing Bevere execution among the French. The latter stormed the position, advancing in several narrow columns, I and bayonetted the Germans in : „the trenches as they gained the position. The Germans fell back to Saint Quentin, and Prenoh reinforcements arrived. They pursued the Germans through the suburbs, and, after ravage street fighting, the Germans were driven bacs until they were ordered to abandon the town. The Germans are now making an effort to retake Saint Quentin. POSITION IS HOPEFUL. LONDON, September 23. The "Times" in a leading article w the battle on the Aisne, says that all ajong the Hne the signs are hopeful, and that at all points there are indications that advantages have been gained. MOVE IN BELGIUM. LONDON, September 23.
