THE NEW COMET.

Westland's comet, the new ornament in the heavens, is visible from Christchurch, and was seen on Tuesday night from the Port Hills, though it is not possible without difficulty to detect it with the naked eye. The comet is visible only shortly after sundown, but as the moon becomes stronger it is harder to pick up the visitor from space. At present the comet is to be seen in the southeast about half-way between the horizon and the zenith.
