American troops captured Castillo, the bandit responsible for the Cumbre tunnel disaster. He is likely to be handed over to the rebsls for execution. Previous reports of capture were untrue.

According to Castillo's men's statements they fired an .empty freight train and despatched it into the .tun* nel. The cars .were still burning when a passenger train dashed in. Everyone aboard was killed. j

Castillo captured many wealthy Mexicans and held them to ransom. One watcher in the neighbourhood informed the Americans of Castillo's whereabouts. He made a detour, bringing him into American territory, thus leading to his capture .
