BAND OF HOPE CONTESTS.

The fifth programme of the Canterbury Baud of Hope contests was given last evening in the Choral Hall, before .a large audience. The president, -Mr J. M’Cullough, was in the chair. The programme consisted of pianoforte (iiir'ts violin solos and oral addresses. The squads gave interesting displays of club-swinging. The contest for Dr C. .). Russell’s special price for vocal solo provided a good competition, six competitors taking part. To-night’s programme will consist of pianoforte and vocal solos and recitations.
