FOOTBALL.
SYDENHAM CLUB
The twenty-ninth annual meeting of the Sydenham Football Club was bold in the club rooms last evening. Mr AV. Hoban was in tho chair, and about ninety members were present. In presenting the annual report, the secretary stated that although the Chib’s representatives had met with little success, the Club had had a good year- in other directions. During tho year thirty-eight now members had joined, and the membership now stood ,rt 195. Tho Club’s junior representatives were successful in winning the Ashburton County seven-a-side tournament, while several members bad represented tile province. Soveral very successful social assemblies had been held, to the financial profit of the Club. The balance sheet showed a debit balance of £l4 19s Gd, but when the investments were taken into consideration there was a credit balanco of £lO5 17s 9d.
The report and balance sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Hen G. J. Smith; president, Mr AV. M. Allardyce; vice-presidents, Captain AV. H. Mcikleham and Messrs H. G. Ell, M.P., T. 11. Davev, M.P., AV. Iloban, T. AV. Reese. AV. E. Monday, George Scott, jun.,AV. Hann, A. J. Lawrenco, T. H. Strahan, T. S. Movtlock, H. N. Bates, J. Hall, A. J. O’Malley, J. AV. Stevens, D. B. Halliday and AV. Gasson; club captain, Mr A. E. Love; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. C. Harrison; committoo, Messrs H. AVatson, E. Fraser, AV. Clemens, T. Kirton and H. Bathurst; delegates to Canterbury Rugby Union, Messrs AV. M. Allardyce, A. E. Doell, E, Love and A. M’Phail.
A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the services rendered by Captain AV. 11. Meikleham, who had held the position of president of the Club for sixteen years. The following wore elected, life-mem-bers of tho Club :—Captain AAL H. Meikleham. Messrs P. Harman, T. Kett and E. Pollock. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Pollock and Miss Triggs for their management of tho Club’s social functions.
At the annual meeting of the Sydonhnm Football Club last evening reference was made- to that much-maligned body, the Referees’ Association. The president, Mr Allardyce, in speaking to a yo’te of thanks to the Referees’ Association, said that there were bound to be incompetent referees, but at tho same time it was well to remember that they did their best, and the least footballers could do was to accept their decisions with good grace.
