TRIMWAY APPEAL BOARD.
TRAMWAY BOARD’S REPRESEN. TATIVE,
GENERAL MANAGER APPOINTED. At its meeting yesterday the Christ*, church Tramway Board appointed Mr Frank Thompson, general manager to the Board, to the Canterbury Tramway Appeal Board, to which Mr J« Young, secretary of the Tramway Em* ployees’ Union, has been appointed as the representative of the men. Mr A. W. Beaven moved that Mr Thompson should be appointed. It was necessary, he said, that the Board should be represented by a man who knew the servioe from top to bottom, and they could find that quality only in the general manager. Mr W. Reece seconded the motion, Mr D. Sykes opposed the appointment of Mr Thompson. He said, that the chairman of the Appeal Board would look on Mr Thompson as a biassed colleague, and Mr Thompson would be a nonentity. It was a very unfair position to place the general manager in, because there would be times when he would have to be sitting in judgment on his own actions. It would be much better if a member of the Board or an outsider were appointed The chairman, Mr H. Pearce, said that he thought the appointment of the general manager was a step in the right direction. The Board would bi well represented by Mr Thompson, anc it would be in the best interests of th« Board that it should have a representative that knew the entire working of the service. _ , The motion was earned, Mr ay£es voting against it.
