CANTERBURY RUNS.
In reference to the action of the Land Board in deciding that applicants for the Canterbury runs, which are to bo balloted for this month, must bo able to show cash to the amount of seven times the annual rent of the run they desire to go in for, Messrs J. Craigii?, M.P., and T. Buxton, M.P., sent the following telegram to Sir Joseph Ward on Saturday morning:— “ We think the Land Board’s decision that applicants for Mackenzie Country subdivisions should possess seven years’ rent is rather stringent. We sugdet that four years’ would be sufficient.” The Hen J. A. Millar, when passing south on Saturday, was met at Timaru by Air CTaigie, M.P., and the Hon J. Anstey, both of whom urged upon him the necessity for taking immediate action to alter this decision of the Land Board, as otherwise great hardship would bo inflicted on men with little capital, as well as on those possessed of a moderate amount, as they would be debarred from applying for a holding. Tlie Alinister promised to have the matter considered.
