A shipment of fifty dogs has been sent to the Solomon Inlands, where the settlers are troubled with a plague of rats and mice. Other consignments will follow. A WOMAN'S BRAVERY. MELBOURNE, April 17. The Royal Huraano Society lias awarded Mrs Kennedy, wife of a. lino ropairer, the gold medal for conspicuous bravery in snatching a child from almost under the wheels of an engine This is the first time'tho Society has awarded the gold modal to a woman. A CHARGE OF MURDER, BRISBANE, April 18. An elderly man named M'Langhlin has been arrested, charged with tho murder of men named Stevenson and Mustaffa at Johannesburg in January, 1895. He has been remanded, pending the arrival of a Transvaal officer. Accused states that ho and some mates wero shelved from their billets by deceased, but he declares that he had nothing to do with the murder, though blamed for it.
