PERSONAL.

Mr J. H. Mussar (Wellington) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr G. R. Reimer loft for' Wellington last evening.

Judge liaselden went south yesterday. . Ur Trevor arrived from Ashburton last evening. Mr D. D. Macfarlane (Lyndon) came into town last evening. Dr L. Mr Ell left Christchurch yesterday for Morven, where lie and th© Hon J. Barr were to address a meeting of agricultural labourers last evening. . Mr Ell will probably return to Christchurch to-day. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., who has been appointed a second Magistrate in Wellington, was welcomed by a Large number of the legal profession in that city yesterday. Speeches were made" by Mr Hadfield, president of the Law Society, and Dr M’Arthur. On the trip from Wellington, on Monday night, Mr A. Mace, of the s.s. Mararoa, was presented by his follow stewards with a handsome silver tea and coffee service, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr Ashman made the presentation, and several of the company contributed musical numbers to a very enjoyable after-cere-mony.

Cable advice has been received that Mr Leslie Mqlineaux, who went to Philadelphia some three years ago to complete his dental studies, has obtained his D.D.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr Molineaux proposes to visit the dental hospitals in England and Scotland, and to return to Christchurch early next year. Among the arrivals in Christchurch yesterday were:—Mr and Mrs G. L. Rutherford (Waikari), Mr D. Todd (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs P. H. Johnston (Mount Topless©); Mr T. A. Phillips (“The Point”), Mr Baxter Wilson (Dunedin), Mr T. Bullock (Ashburton), Mr T. Dowling (Hinds) and Mr J. M’ Arthur (Hanmer).,
