PRESENTATIONS.
At the meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council on Tuesday evening, the Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of the town, presented a gold Maltese cross to Mr George H. Oram, and, in doing 00, said that the cross was one of those procured at the time of the return of the Contingents from South Africa, but, owing to Mr Oram staying in Africa till very recently, there had been no opportunity of presenting it. The councillors wished Mr Oram and his bride a pleasant trip to Durbaq,, where Mr Oram holds a prominent position in the Customs. A large and enthusiastic gathering, under the auspices of St Mattliew u Younf Men’s Guild and the “Old Boys” of St Albans School, assembled at St Matthew’s' Schoolroom on Tneadav to bid good-by© to i.vlr Chailes Hall, who has been appointed to the charge of the Akaroa High School. The meeting was presided over by the Rev J. H. Rogers, and there was a large attendance. As a token of the lush esteem in which Mr Hall was held, tne Guild presented him with a case .of silver-mounted pipes, and a haiiQsoine-ly-framed enlarged photograph of the members. The “ Old Boys ” of the school presented him with a Cutler s writing-desk, suitably inscribed^ Yesterday afternoon at the Kaiapoi District High School, Mies Annie Ritchie, who has been appointed to the Wharenui School, was presented with a silver-mounted brush and conib, and a trnv. Miss .Olive Johnson, on behalf of the teachers and scholars, made the presentation. ' . . A farewell social was given on Fob-
ruary 21 by the organist and clioir of All Saints’ Church, Prebbleton, to Mr Leonard Harper, who has been a member of the choir for seventeen years, and who id severing his with the ohoir to take up his residence in Christchurch. Mrs Scales, the organist, on behalf of the choir, presented Mr Harper with a nicely-bound volume of hymns, set to music, and the Cathedral prayer-book. The residents of Broadfield met on Friday evening.to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Bennington, who are leaving the district, Mr W. Early presiding over a fairly representative gathering. During the evening Mr Early presented a gladstone bag and a travelling-rug to Mi - Bennington, and Mr S. Ryan an over-mantel to Mrs Bennington. During the evning recitations were given by Misses Eagan and Mr Early, a duet by Mr and Mrs Burrows, and songs by Mrs Burrows and Messrs JRyan and W. Campion. Misses Burrows, Benny and Campion acted as accompanists. ‘
