ROAD BOARDS.
HALSWELL. A meeting of the Halswell Road Board was held on February 25; present —Alesero Lewis, AI.H.R- (chairman), Hugonin, Eaglesomo and Quaife. Permission was granted to the Tramway Board to erect seats on the footpath at the tramway terminus at Spreydon. With reference to the construction of a tramline from the present terminus to Halswell, it was resolved to call a meeting of ratepayers at- an early -date and explain matters in connection with th© proposal. The clerk was instructed to prosecute ..any person riding or driving on the footpath on Hackthorne Road. The tender of Alessrs Fenton and Gahagan, for the erection of a bridge on Hoon Hay Swamp Road, for £7O, was accepted. The clerk was instructed to write to the Spreydon and Riccarton Road Boards, drawing attention, to the state of the Lincoln Road, which is impassable for traffic, except along the tramline. Mr - Quaife submitted a letter from Air Carnegie, offering £ISOO towards the erection of a public library and lecture hall at Halswell, provided the Board would find a free site and allocate £IOO a year for maintenance. It was resolved that the Board should express its high appreciation of Air Carnegie’s liberality in making the offer, and that the matter should bo put before the ratepayers at the same meeting at which tramway matters are discussed. Accounts for £142 6s 6d were passed for payment.
