NAPIER RAM FAIR.
[Per Pkess Association.] .NAPIER, January 31. Tho annual ram fair was held at Hastings to-day. Tho number of rams was the largest ever offered, but stud rams were comparatively few, tho number showing a great falling off from former years. Flock rams, however, came forward in very large numbers. Practically only North Island breeders were represented, nearly all the Soutli Island sheep which wore on the ground having been sent in by other sellers. There' was a good demand for Lincolns and Bomnoy Marshes, especially the former, and good prices were realised for first-class animals'. Stud Lincolns went to 50gs, that price being paid for a ram bred bv Mr Wybourn, Whenuakura. Forty-nine, forty and thirty-six guineas were paid for rams bred by Mr Yv. Perry, Masterton, and 44gs and 32gs for sheep bred by Mr W. Rayuer. Maoterton. Flock Lincolns went up to lOlgs, this price being obtained for sheep bred by Mr J. Hastings. A stud Romney easily topped the sale, the record price of Il2gs' being paid for a ram bred by Mr E. J. Riddiford, Orongorongo, Hutt. Other sheep by tho same breeder brought 33ge, 28gs, and 26gs. For flock Romney.s Mr Riddiford also secured the highest prices,- 7-igs and BAga being the top figures. A few flock English Leicesters sold at 4i]gs. For flock Border Leieestors the top price was ogs for sheep bred by Mr J. S. Hughes, Waverley. Flock Southdowns made 61-gri which price was paid for sheep bred by Mr G. Rhodes, Ellesmere, Canterbury, and 4Jgs was the top price for Shropshires, Mr James Johns’ sheep reaching that figure. Some of Mr James Little’s Corriedalos realised 4tgs.
