THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
MORE VACANCIES. [From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, October 14,
Four more Legislative Council appointments will expire to-morrow, the councillors concerned being tho Hons W. M. Bolt, H. Feldtrick, T. Kelly and W. Montgomery. This reduces the strength of the Council to thirty, and in view of the recent statement by. the Premier in tho matter some appointments are likely to bo made in the near future. Sir Joseph Ward, it will be remembered, defined the existing system of making appointments, and pretty clearly indicated that tho Government had no intention of either ending or mending the Council. Probably three of the gentleman named will be re-appointed. The Hon W. Montgomery, who is in poor health, is understood not to desire a further term of office.
