CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, January 2. (Before Mr .H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness.— Four first offenders pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness, and were each fined 5s and costs.—Thomas Withers and Isabella Leckie,. who were appearing for the second time within six months, were each fined 10s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Alleged Ass audt.— George James Prendergast was remanded for a week, charged with wounding William Williams with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. The police that the wound had been inflicted with a knife in Hie Lordship’s Hotel, but that Williams had quite, recovered from the injury. Bail was allowed, ac.cuscd in £SO and one surety of £SO. Breach of Prohibition Order.— George Creswell, a middle-aged man, was fined 40s and costs for entering licensed premises on December 23, during the currency of a prohibition order against him. Molesting a Ladt.— John O’Connor was charged with having assaulted Lydia Fitzgerald in Latimer Square on the previous night. The complainant, who said that she was a barmaid, stated that , she. had been walking by henself in Latimer Square about nine o’clock, when the accused approached her and placed his arm round her waist. Corroborative evidence was called, and the accused was fined 40s and costs, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. The Magistrate said that he would have sent the accused to gaol if anything had been known about him by. the police. Remanded.— Annie Clements pleaded not guilty to a charge of having used obscene language within the hearing of persons in Salisbury Grove, on December 29. She elected to be tried by a jury. Her behaviour in the ' deck, however, was so peculiar that she was remanded for a day.
