The dispute was brought before the Supreme Court •■•nme years ago, but has now cropped up again. A long discussion took place mi the question of the separate riding accounts, which had become troublesome, because some ridings have lavee credits, and others have large debits, in the bcoks, and Councillors claim advantage for credits and repudiate debits. The chairman (Mr P. Studholme) moved to the effect that both debits and credits should be abolished, but this was rejected, and a motion wan passed to the effect that they should be continued. Councillor Walker protested that the system was illegal, and moved for an authoritative opinion on this point, but his motion was not seconded. It was reported .that the trainingbank and Fence at the south side of the Lower Pareora Bridge had beeii breached in two places, and that thore was a great risk of the river breaking completely through, taking a course outside the bank, and leaving the bridge high and dry. It was resolved to urge tho Levels Council, which has charge of the bridge, to attend to the necessary repairs. Accounts amounting. ■■•«> £1403 wore passed for payment.
