levels. The Levels Borough Council met on Wednesday 7, March ij ail t* l ® membexs being present. Among the correspondence was a letter from the) Hoads Department, that the allocation of Government grant of £3OO for Rosewiil Settlement roads could not be materially departed from. The chairman explained that the allocation was made to dispose of between three and four thousand pounds, and when the amount was cut down to £BOO the proportions made ridiculously small sums for each road, it was decided to again urge this view on the Department. Among the applications for new works was one for a footbridge over the Tougawai, at Cave, for the'benefit of school children and visitors, and.the surveyor was instructed to report on the cost. It was decided to ask tho Harbour Board to make some considerable improvements to the road along which its quarry tram line runs, ns a condition of renewing its license to use the road. Ine current- license expires on March /. A motion passed at the previous meeting in favour of a superannuation fund for employees of local authorities nas oidered to be sent to all county councils, with a request for support. Hie Council resolved to place on halt-pay a surfaceman who was retired aftei twenty-nine yearsL'sorvice. ihe surveyor was instructed to warn cocksfoot cutters against leaving heaps of straw or burning straw on roadsides, to form objects scaring timid horses. Accounts amounting to £941 were passed for payment.
