FRIENDLY SOCIETES’ CONFERENCE.

The second meeting <if the conference of delegates of Christchurch Friendly Societies was held in the Foresters’ Hall last evening, Mr J. Y. Beatty in the chair. A long'discussion took place on various matters of interest to the (Societies, and it Iwgs decided to make’the following recommendations for the consideration of the individual bodies: —(1) Uniform scale cf contributions.rand benefits; (2) uniform payment to medical men to avoid competition, and interchange <Sf doctors ; (3) careful consideration of present and future legislation in its relation to ■ Friendly Societies, and of the advisableness of electing a Parliamentary agent and of placing the Societies’ requirements before a meeting of the members of Parliament; (4) the promotion of better feeling among the Societies. It was also decided — ,f That this meeting is in favour of « Friendly Societies Council being established in Christchurch to confer upon all matters likely to further the interests or promote the welfare of Societies in general, and to amalgamate the already Medical Benefits Interchange Association and the Benevolent Fund for their more economic and effectual working. '■ The Secretary' was authorised to call another meeting of the Conference as soon as replies had been received from the various Societies regarding the recommendations. ■ A heartv” vote of thanks was accorded the convener of the meeting;, and also Bro Marks for:, the valuable assistance he had given. The meeting then closed.
