THE RESULT OF A DOG FIGHT.
A NEIGHBOURS' QUARREL.
A neighbours' quarrel, arising out of a dog fight, occupied the attention of Messrs Thompson, Barrett and Richardson, Justices of the , Peace, at the Police Court yesterday. 'William James Edgar (Mr Cresswell) , charged Edmund Barnard (Mr Malky)' with having assaulted him at S'b Albans on March 26. Tine complainaait and defendant .each owned a, dog. and the animals started fighting in tu paddock rented by Edgar. Barnard,- a boy, ran in with a. broom to separate them,, and a quarrel ensued, in tho course of which Edgar sustained two broken ribs. The complainant alleged that the assault bad been entirely unprovoked, aaid that ha had been struck with the broom without being able to defend himself. This evidence* was supported by Mrs Edgar and her son.The defendant, on. the other hand, alleged that Edgar had commenced hostilities with a piece of scantling, and that a general melee had resulted. A small brother of defendant, corroborated this statement of the case. After consideration, the Bench inflicted a fine of £3 and costs- £2 2s, half the fine to go to the informant.
