Miss iSf. A. Guise, a member of the teaching staff of "the .Normal School, who is on leave- in South Africa, has resigned. The following appointments have been made by the /North Canterbury Education Board:—Sydenham, Mr W. E. Burley, assistant master; Glentunnel, Miss A. Stanley, mistress; Christchurch West, Mr C. N. Watson, assistant master; Midland Railway (Springfield), the Rev J. B. Campbell, master; Gust, Miss G. Wilson, mistress; Omihi, Miss J. E. Maxwell, mistress ; Medbiiry, Miss F. Lezard, mistress ; Marshland, Miss G. Chapman, mistress. The following resignations have been accepted":—Miss J: M'Kinnon, mistress, Okuku; Miss J. E. Maxwell, mistress, Hinds (main) ; Miss Al Hodgsun, assistant mistress, Papanui; and Miss B. Harbarid, Waiau Ferry.
Miss B. ■ jSTorris has been recommended for appointment as mistress at the liaikoura suburban school.
Captain M'Dougal arrived from Wellington by the s.s. Taluno yesterday.
The death of Mr R. Westenra, was re>ferced to with regret', at the meeting of till® Nortih -Canterbury Education Boaard yesterday. Mr. J. Ronnie -said that lie had served with Mr Westenra. on. several local bodies, including the Education Board, the Selwyin County Council and the Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards. Th:& deceased g-Mitleamui had always taken a, very keen interest in publio affairs and would be much missed. Ho moved that the regret of the Board should 'be recorded on Ito© minutes, and that a let tec "of sympathy should be .sent to t,h© family. Mr. Ronnie added that a- more respected and -devoted cshairnwa had never presided over the Board's meetings. Mr H. W. Peryman seconded the motion, and said that Mr Westenra's actions ' were characterised by integrity, and ho was a> man of mark. Messrs T. W. Adams and C. A. C. Hardy (chairman) spoke in similar strain, and five motion was carried, members rising. ' Dr C. Coleridge Farr, who is in charge of the Magnetic Observatory at Chris tchurch, was ma.rried yesterday afternoon to Miss Maud Hay don, second daughter of Mr J. Haydon, of Ghristchurch. The ceremony took pla.ee .in the Papanui Church,, and was performed by Bishop Julius, who was assisted by "the Rev J. Campbell, vicar.
