INTERPRETATION OF RULES. [Per Press '.Association-.] WELLINGTON, April 22. Bv to-day's San Francisco mail the .honorary Secretary to the. Now Zealand Rugby Union received the decision of the English ltugbv- Union on two important questions submitted to it by the -New Zealand Union. Firstly, it was asked whether it was permissible for -a player to throw in from touch and play the ball himself. The English authorities rule that a player is not permitted to run into the field after the ball and play it before it has properly bounded or. another player hen touched it. The second question was whether a Union in adopting :t by-law pwmilting any person (o report a player for rough play except the referee is not acting -ultra" vires to the rules of the game. The English Union holds that tho referee, solely lias the right to report playei*.
■JNTER-SOH-OOL MATCHES. [From Oct. Corbiotoxdext.] DUNEDI'N, April 22. The Schools' Euirby Association has decided to ask the Ota go Rugby Union to take steps to inaugurate an annual schools' representative match with Canterbury.
