I • The ordinary . monthly, meeting of the officers of the Garrison will be held at the Garrison Library on March 5. A series of lectures on elementary chemistry, designed to suit the needs of those who have no previous knowledge of the subject, will he delivered at Canterbury College on Thursdays at 6 p.m., commencing on March 12. The hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the city will be closed all day to-morrow for the annual picnic. The annual general meeting of the New Brighton Beautifying Association will be held at the Beach Hall at eight o’clock tonight. A special train for the Hororata races will leave Christchurch at 8.55 a.m. to-mor-row. A meeting of the Harewood Road branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union will be held in the Schoolroom, Harewood Road, at eight o’clock to-night. At the Choral Hall to-night Mr Ernest Tuck will give the first of a series •of Wednesday evening addresses. The subject will be ‘’The Rich Man and Lazarus, ' and questions will he answered after the address
