the'STOCK QUESTION IN THE TRANSVAAL. POPULATION OP 'BURGHER CAMPS. PROGRESS OF LAND SETTLEMENT. United Press Association—By Electris Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March. 3, 10.32 p.m.) LONDON, March 5. A Blue Book dealing with the question of land settlement and re-stocking of farms in the Transvaal and Orange River Colony has been published. Lord Milner, in a despatch dated Dec. 22, says that though Transvaal had adopted stock-raising, probably nowhere is it harder to acclimatise imported stock. It would be a pity to send pedigree stock in any quantity until there was a reasonable prospect that they would be able to survive the climate and the change of pasture. On Feb. 16 there were 141 occupants in the burgher camps of the Transvaal and 490 in those of the Orange River Colony, mostly destitute women and children and aged and infirm. So far 570 selectors have taken up land in the Transvaal and 362 in the Orange River Colony.
