DUNEDIN ITEMS.
[From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 13. An action was commenced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for the recovery of £23 5s from-a -defeated candidate in the recent election for Dunedin City. It was for the rent of a committee room at the rate of a pound per week from Oct. 12 to Election Day, gas used and services rendered. The hearing wa.s adjourned.’ till Monday next. Mr P. Hally has left for Auckland, to represent the Tailorcsses’ Union and also the southern manufacturers before the Arbitration Court, in an effort to bring the Auckland clothing manufacturers under the provisions of the award now in force in the south.
Mrs Reid, a, widow, a resident of Kyeburn, is claiming £2OOO for damages sustained in a railway collision at Hindon. This matter was''’mentioned at the Chambers sitting yesterday, when Mr Justice Williams consented to an application that tho trial should be postponed till April next.
The finding of the disabled barque Samuel Plimsoll by the steamer Omapere has resulted in a claim for salvage by the crew of the Omapere, and another claim by that steamer’s owners, the Union Steamship Company. Mr Justice Williams has decided that the two act ions shall he- taken together on a date to be hereafter fixed.
