' CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, August 26. , (Before Mr A. Scott, J.P., and Mr J. Richardson, J.P.) Drunkenness. — A first offender was fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment.—Harry Binns Boyce was fined 10s amd costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.—George E. Bentley, who was last Monday remanded for a week for medical treatment, was brought up, and pleaded not guilty. He stated that he had been assaulted, and had gone to the Police Station of his own accord to lay'am information. Evidence, however, showed that ho had been in a state bordering on delirium tremens when, arrested, and the Bench sentenced him to one- months . imprisonment, and ordered him to pay £2 19s 6d costs,. in default another month’s detention, the time to be cumulative. Theft. —Charles Alexander Hood pleaded guilty to having stolen two buckets, valued at 7s, the property of James Johb, on August 11. The buckets had been stolen from a building in process of construction, and the Bench inflicted a sentence of one month’s imprisonment. Unlawfully on. Premises. —Joseph Penn pleaded guilty to having been unlawfully on the premises of Charles Rangin in Manchester Street on August 25. Ho was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment.—Eliza Begarie, who had similarly trespassed on Hie property of the Rev J. Mackenzie, in Tua-m Street,, was also sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. Theft of a Bicycle. —Sydney Lionel Barrett was charged with having stolen a bicycle, valued at £ll, .from William Hindi©. He was remanded for eight days on the application of Suh-Tnspectbr Black. (Before Mr H. W. S.M.) Default Cases. —In' the following cases Judgment was given for the plaintiffs by default : —Thomas Alexander v. Joseph Radoliffe, daim.£l ss; Christchurch “Press” Company v. G. Carrington, 15s; H. Matson and Co. v. W. Longstaff, £l6 14s 2di; William Walker v. A. Nicholls, 7s 6d; D. Murray v. Edith White, £4 12s 6d. Neigh nouns’ Dispute. —Much time was occupied over a dispute between Mrs R. M. Templar (Mr Bruges) and Charles Cox (Mr Wid'dowson). Mrs Templar claimed" £lO damages:TroJa v o6*;'' ; '<niT'lite' grounds that he-hod trespassed on her property and moved-her fence without permission. After a quantity of evidence had been given with regard to fences, tree-cut-ting and the dumping of rubbish, Mr Bishop gave Judgment for the plaintiff for £1 and costs. A Claim for Hire. —William Hartshorn (Mr Hunt) claimed £lO 17s from Joseph Smith (Mr M’Coimell) for hire of a cart for some sixty-two weeks, at the rate of 3s 6d per week. ■ Smith stated that he had been, lent the cart, had used it for only six months,, and had! then kept it-ah his shed for-the‘plaintiff. Mr Bishop assessed the amount due at £4, and gave Judgment for that sum and costs. LYTTELTON. Monday, August 26. . (Before Captain Marciel, J.P.) Drunkenness. —A man who had not previously been before the Court was convicted of drunkenness, cautioned and discharged.—Henry Bamford, who, while drunk, had behaved riotously and resisted Constable Connell in the execution of his duty, was .sentenced to, fourteen, days’ imprisonment.- : Vagrancy. —Alfred Boyle pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and not guilty to one of having no lawful means, of support. It was proved that for some months he had done no work, had loafed about hotels and been a nuisance generally, and ho was sentenced! to a month’s imprisonment. - ■ '
