CHRISTCHURCH. . Tuesday, August 20. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness.—A first offender was fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four houis' imprisonment.- —-Neils Ludwig was fined 20s, m default seven days' imprisonment, and Bridget Fiitzsimmons was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. Importuning Passengers.'—Louie Frame, alias France, was charged with, having loitered and importuned passengers in Manchester Street on August 19. She pleaded not guilty, 'but, after Detective Livingstone had given evidence, Mr Bishop convicted and discharged 'her, on condition that she went to. the Samaritan Home for at least one month.
Assault.—John Walker pleaded not guilty to having assaulted William Madden, a bciairdir.g-housa-keeipeir, on the previous night. Evild'&Dca showitil that ho had! applied for % bed, and, when he was told' 4.hat mone ' wore available, ho struck Madden on the head with a lemonade bottle 'full of whisky, inflicting a. wound. Accused, who bore a very bad character, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Maintenance. —Henry Wa.lker, who had failed to comply with an order of the Court to contribute towards the support of his wife, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in; default of payment of arrears. —-An order of Is 8d per week against Petes Brown, for the support of his sister, was increased to 4s per week.—Lena_ Giles was ordered to pay 7s per week towards the support of her child.—An order .against Albert Williams for. the support of his wife was reduced from 4s to 2s' 6d per week. Breach of a Prohibition Order.— Arthur Hood (Mr Leatham.) admitted having entered the Al Hotel during the currency of a prohibition order, and was fined 40s and costs.

Prohibition Order. —An order of this kind was granted against a man, on his own application. The Bicycle By-Law.—Joseph Jackson, for riding his bicycle <m the footpath in the 'borough, was finedi ss, and 7s costs.
Maintenance.—Samuel Wilson was charged with failing to obey an order of the Court to contribute 7s 6d per w*ek towards the mamteniamca of his illegitimate child. The Bench was informed that defendant had paid) up his arrears, and the oase was dismissed.
TEMUKA. Tuesday, August 20. (Before Mr C. A. Wray, S.M.)
This Licensing ■ Act.—James Whelaiu, licensee of the Wallingford Hotel, was charged! with two comtra.ve'nitdonis of thie Licensing Act, im net keisping a. light burning outside his 'hotel between the hours of sunset and sunrise. He admitted the offence, bub explained that he understood renewals of licenses had been granted on the same terms as before. It appeared that the solicitor who appeared for the licensees had neglected to apply, for the exemption, which was previously granted. Constable Gillespie, clerk to the Licensing Bench, stated that licensees were notified •of 'the omission. A fine of 5s oh each charge was inflicted,, with costs on one information.—William O'Brien, licensee of the Royal Hotel, was similarly charged, and pleaded neglect. He was in conversation with a friend, and neglected far an hour or so to light up. The charge was. dismissed with & caution.
