NEW GUINEA.

A STATEMENT BY THE FEDERAL PREMIER, United Press Association—By Eleotria Telegraph—Copyright. , MELBOURNE, .August 6. Mr Barton, speaking at the Australian Natives Association banquet, said it was the desire of the Government that the administration of New Guinea should be speedily vested in the Commonwealth. Steps were being taken to accomplish this. (Received August 6, 11 -p.m.) The “Age,” dealing with -the annual report of the administration of New Guinea, says that it discloses that the only policy in force is that -of stagnation. This drift has continued a whole decade, and it was time, something was heard about a developmental, policy.
