The.ord'lnary meeting of the Canterbury - Trades and Labour Council was held in. the Trades' Hall, Inglis's Buildings, cm Saturday. Mr A. Reay, president, ;n the chair. Letters wore received Irom the Christchuich Tailoring Trade Union, Chnstchurch Paint- , «rs''Union and Amalgamated Society oi Engineers, informing the Council that they had elected delegates to represent them. Canterbury Drivers' Union wiote requesting to become affiliattd to the Council. The ' Union was acc/pted, and the delegates wel-*-OTned.' Canterbury Women's Institute wrote respecting the present constitution of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, urging: that these Boards should be elective, «wtead of nominated, and forwarding peti- ' tioas in favour of elective boards. It was . that the Council's Executive should ■ sga the petition on 'behalf of the Council, n<J" that members of Unions should be requested to assist in this, direction. The lowing Unions replied that they -would iss-ist in the hairdressers' dispute:—Caniertjury Carpenters' and Joiners' Association, Bootmaker** Union, Tinsmiths' Union,' Plasterers' Union, Engine Drivers' Unlaw, Union and Amalgamated I Society, of Engineers'. Wellington Council ! ' fctsd -wrote stating the Unions of Wellington j Would assist, if such was necessary. The ' tKjwlcs of the Council were tendered for the ! I wsis-fcanoe offered. South, Canterbury '. Trades' Council wrote regarding the forrria- - tron of unions, and Wellington Wharf Libourers' Union wrote thanking the Council for its efforts on behalf of the wharf !'" labourers. The Secretary had replied to these communication's, and his action was" approved." Lytteltoni Maritime and Wharf Labourers' Undom reported instances «f unjust treatment of members of the Union by the employers, and it was resolved that the Council would assist the Lyttelton -tMaritime and Wharf Labourers' .Union ~ini»ny manner it may desire, in order that rtdrees of the hardships reported might be ' obtained. The Secretary of the Auckland Millers' Union wrote stating that private fcjur"mills in Auckland were not connected with the Southern Milling Trust, requesting the assistance of workers to these mills, and adding that if the Trust is allowed to flourish, it will dictate terms to the farmers and consumers. The rules, as amended for the Central Fund, were read and adopted, and ordered to -be forwarded to all unions. Wellington Trades 'Council wrote complaining of the unnecessary" hardships and dangws .which the wharf labourers of Wellington suffer, and which could be obviated by the local Harbour Board, but the Board wftfsed; and requesting the Council to tirge • the .Government to grant the labour organisations direct representation on the Harbour Boards. It .was resolved to call a meeting of Mr C Taylor's Election Committee. - Tie following were elected an Organising ,Coajnaittee:—Messrs Williams, Baxter, Warner, Grant,-Palmer and the Exeeutive. The 'following" were elected a Hall Cominit-tee-i-Messrs.Willis, Hodges, 'Ruddle, M'Oullough; • Cannicjiael, Baxter, Reay and Wbodf.
