DANCING IN SCHOOLS.

TO THE EmTOB. Sir,-I was rather surprised that you allowed that scurrilous and uncaLed-for portion of vour correspondent's letter ( terpsichore ■•') t<> app«r in print. I refer to the latter portion-of the letter in qnesUon. So far Mr \ E. I>'owe has acted the gentleman right through the correspondence, but lam sorry to say I.cannot s ? y the same of vour correspondent "Terpsichore Mx Lowe is fighting for, a. righteous and just oaiwe-the school we built for educational p Ur p ose c._. in W hich he should be supported, not condemned. I once consented to a schoolroom being used for.a concert, but never no more. The only excuse I have lor voir is that you do not know Mr. Lowe personally for I am sure if you dv-t you would not have allowed the portion I rcler to to appear in print. My knowledge of Mr is that he is a thorough gent.eman -sincere, earnest, conscientious, one who takes a lofty and high ideal of educational matters, just the clan* of men we want on our school committees and Education Boards. I hdve waited to see if any correspondent would reply.on behalf of Mr Lowe, but none doing so is my reason for writing.—l am, etc., SCHOOL COMMITTEEMAN. TO TUB EDITOTI. gi r ,_l notice in your issue of to-day a quotation from a previous letter of mine by Air H. E. Peryman, and a. certain statement in connection therewith. I should like to point out to Mr Peryman that my statement read, -"all the members present," Mr Peryman was the only member absent from the meeting (convened by chairman, bv request) at which the statement referred to was made by Mr Lowe,, so might have seen that his signature W 8.3 hot, nor was. it intended to-be, included with the rest, ■ _ With regard to the letter signed by Mr Lowe, just a few parting words on the contents. I frankly admit overlooking the date of his'letter,'but that, the accusation was made at the social mentioned, and as Mr Lowe prefers it, during his "disgraceful episode" (and in presence of several witnesses who. are prepared to testify to the fact), I must re-affirm. Any personal, feeling which has, been expressed in connection with the matter was ©riginiatedi by Mr Lowe, as any reader of the whole corres-, pondenpe may ; see. I can only- say that I am surprised at" the words "truth "and "honour" in Mr Lowe's letter. I, with the Committee, am quite anxious to hear, an explanation of Mr Lowe's action in > public capacity,; and he will doubtless take the opportunity of giving the householders his version of the affair on Monday evening next.' " Mr Lowe may have "honestly" and " fearlessly " " endeavoured " to d 6 his duty,' but. alas, some are doomed to failand perhaps the mistakes of putting truth -so far "before expediency' as to lose sight of it altogether may be the fruitful cause. "Any cheap, edition, of ."Webster" will show Mr Lowe the meaning of '"pseudonym." That he is totally ignorant as to its meaning is self-evident when as "A Member of Tai Tapu School Committee." — lam. etc., J. A. FORBES. Tai Tapu, July 31, 1901.
