' i,At the inquest touching the death ol Michael Hughes, a"farmer at Wingatui, who was found drowned in a pool three feet deep on his farm, the jury returned a ver- , diet of “Found drowned.” An old man named James Harris was, found drowned 1 yesterday morning in the water race which runs alongside Winter’s Road, Alleiiton, Ashburton.' He was parti-, ally under a culvert, and held in hi® hand the key of his house. .The body was dis: covered by a boy, who saw what seemed to be a coat partially under the culvert. Pulling at it, he was horrified to find the dead body of a man, and at once went for Mr Johns,who' lives dose by, who pulled the body out. An inquest will be held at ten o'clock this morning. A man named Robert Wright met'with a slight accident at the.Kaiapoi Woollen Factory on Thursday, some iron falling on and crushing; his thumb. A .man-, who gave his name as M’Tavish, was taken to the Hospital last evening, suffering from a rather severe scalp wound, sustained by falling in the street, and striking his head against the pavement.
