LAND BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting of the Canterfcury Land Board was held on Thursday; present:—Messrs R. Meredith (chairman), J. 1? L c J acl ? lan > M-H-R., A. C. 'Pringle, and J. bealy. The following applications for land, -under lease in perpetuity, were grantJ ’ Manchester,' section 9, Block IV., Morven township; Christina Meehan, section 16, Block IV., Morven township; J. Bull, section 6, reserve 462, Block IX., Oxford; M, Connell, section 4 (Waekatahi), Block XIII.; A. Longman, section 7, Tamai. ‘ Messrs Stewart and Langesen were, granted a yearly i tenancy of part of the Garry Riverbed -at a rental of Is an acre per annum, subject to the usual conditions, and also to free public right of access down the riverbed, subject to the condition under which consent was given by (he adjoining owner. ’ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company wrote stating that it was prepared to accept a tenancy of the umlet land in the Hanmer Springs Village Block, as previously offered. It -was decided to recommend 'that the tenancy should be confirmed, providing the lands had hob already been announced for public, disposal. The Board decided that it could do nothing ■ ill regard to extending holdings-of View Hill village settlers until the,.expiration of the existing pastoral license over the runs. Mr L. 0. Mathias, district surveyor, re- ’ ported that after proceeding to me ground to survey the coal and limestone mining areas'applied for by Mr L.- Adams in the Hororata district, the applicant had decided to withdraw his application, and ..the survey had been Abandoned. Mr M’Lachlan moved ..nd Mr Scaly seconded—“ That, after hearing Mr E. P. Burbury’s explanation in support of his previous and present applications for the Takitu homestead and adjoining block, the Board is of opinion that ho has not disclosed and further reasons, nor given any fresh, information beyond that which was before the Board When. it previously decided that the land should be opened to the public under the Land for‘Settlements Act.” The motion was carried unanimously. It was also decided on the motion of Messrs M’Lachlan and Sealy that the Crown lands ranger - should be instructed to have all stock removed from the land not later tdjan the Second week / in May. - The sum of £2 an acre was fixed as the rental to be 'placed on Run No.' 205, for the purposes of the exchange with Messrs R. Campbell and Sons, to secure a homestead site ■ for small grazing run No. 15, Station Peak. In dealing with unselected lands in Stour-' Village Settlement, it; was decided to recommend the grouping of, the small . lots as recommended by the ranger, ynd that they should be re-offered for selection, under the village homestead : petuity conditions. ■ 1
