PRESENTATIONS.

A large number of the employees at the Addington Workshops assembled on Saturday in the OddfelloAvs’ Chambers, to bid farewell to the late foreman fitter, Mr S. P. Evans, who has been promoted to he Avorkshops’ manager at Hillside,. Dunedin. .During the evening, Mr J. Kerr, on behalf of the employees, presented Mr Evans Avith a silver-plated afternoon tea and coffee service, Avith polished oak salver and Doulton china. A capital programme of vocal and instrumental music Avas provided, Mr Evans receiving a great ovation when returning thanks. On Friday evening a farewell complimentary banquet was tendered to Mr John Simpson, a vice-president of the St AndreAvs Caledonian Society, and Mrs Simpson, on Mr Simpson’s departure from Kaiapoi to take up the management, of the Bruce avoollen mills, Milton, Otago. There Avas a good attendance. The chair was occupied by Mr D. M. Marshall, President of the society, supported on his right by Mr It. Moore, ex-M.H.R., and on his left by the Mayor, and at the head of another table Avas Cr. J. Daley. The toast-list comprised after the loyal toasts, “The Mayor, and Borough Council,” responded to by his Worship, and Councillors Pearce and Daly. The President at this stage, handed to Mrs Simpson a silver* teapot, pickle-jax and frult-boAvl, beautifully-engraved, and to Mr Simpson a handsome gold locket, which was also engraved. Mr Simpson, in thanking the society for the valuable presents, said that he could never forget the many acts of kindness that he had at all times received at the hands of his fellow Caledonians, nor the great kindness on. l all hands extended to his family and himself. Dancing Avas engaged in and kept up at intervals till a late hour. ,

A ‘ very pleasant “ social ” was held in the -Halswell School on Friday evening, given by the pupils and parents to Miss Kate Foster, who has been pupil-teacher for some years, and is- now about to leave. Opportunity was taken to present to Miss Foster a, gold bangle; subscribed for by the children \vho have been under her charge. The chairman of committee, Mr'.F. W. Quaife, - made the presentation, and spoke in high terms of the good influence' she had exercised in the school. Mr E. W. Seager added much to the enjoyment by a magic lantern exhibition, the proceeds from Avhich will add the sum of £1 17s to the Jubilee ,Memorial Fund. The- catering Avas in the hands of Mr J. T. Smith, of Christchurch, Avho supplied an abundance o-f good things, ■enough for the tables to he relaid after the 'entertainment, and before the very large congregation dispersed. On Saturday, Mr A. Brunsden, wellknoAvn in football circles, left for Wellington,' received a presentation from the employees of Messrs H. Smith and Co.’s ironAvorks at Lyttelton, Avhere he Avorked. Mr J. Smith,' on behalf of the employees, handed -him a handsome, silvei’-mounted pipe, and wished him success in hi# future career. Mr Brunsden made an appropriate acknoAvledgmenfc.
