THE VOLUNTEERS.
A supply of water-bottles for the use of the North Canterbury Tfatanteers has been received at the local office from the Defence Department. The bottles for the infantry are enamelled, while those for the Ordnance Corps are made of wood. The nan-conumssk—ed officers of the Ellesmere Mounted Bifles are now undergoing their preliminary examination. A ball, jromoted by the corps, will be held at Leeston on June 9.
