ENTERTAINMENTS
Considering the inclement weather there was a verygood attendance at the Opera House ' last .evening, when the combined Musical Union and Motett Society produced ■ Handel’s oratorio “ Samson. ” The oratorio went even better than when it was produced on Tuesday evening, and the hearty applause which greeted the main items must have been satisfactory to the performers. On Wednesday a number of Lyttelton ladies gave a very enjoyable concert at the Seamen’s Rest. .The, building, was crowded to .its utmost capacity. Mrs Bromley had charge of the arrangements. The employees of the D.I.G. tendered a farewell social gathering to Mr J. u. Allan, at St John’s schoolroom, last evening, previous to his departure for Melbourne. Mr Allan has had charge of the musical department. of the firm for the past couple of years, and by lids courtesy has gained a large number of friends. There was a large, attendance, including many of the musicians of Christchurch. The hall had been tastefully decorated by the ladies, and a very good dance programme was provided. During tho evening songs were given, by Miss Fountains Madame Konigs, and Messrs Collier and Godfrey. '
