A COMPENSATION CASE
THE HATUIvIA ESTATE. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 11. This morning the Chief Justice and Judges Denniston, Conolly and Edwards sat as a Supreme Court to deal with a further case stated by the Compensation Court_ in connection. with the Hatuma compensation Case. The principal question involved is whether the Compensation Court should take as a basis of compensation the valrie of an estate in the open market, or the value tri the owner looking to what the estate will produce. The Court decided that while the claimant is not entitled absolutely to the capitalised value of the profits he may be maMng, such profits are a matter to be taken into consideration in determining the value of the land taken, and the Compensation Court is not confined to the evidence of witnesses as to the value of tlie land in the market.
