THE QUEENSLAND MEETING.

There is a probability of Queensland accepting the Amateur Athletic Union's suggested compromise with regard to the dates for the Brisbane meeting.

At the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club's sports 'yesterday, S- Pentecost won the Half-mile in 2min 25 4-ssec, and the 600yds Handicap, from scratch., m lmin 20sec. Gibson ran a great race with him in the Half-mile and finished second to Malihus in the .Steeplechase. M. E. Lindsay won the Mile, 440yds Flat and 250yds Flat; Fraser won the 100yds; Mendelson the Hammer (lOUft), High Jump (sft), and Long Jump (20tt 9in) ; Cholmondeley the 120yds Hurdler. Ross won the Mile Walk and. Malthus the Steeplechase. The fields were very small and the attendance was only moderate.

A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Hardware Club was held on Tuesday night at the City Hotel. It was decided to send a football team to Wellington, to play the Wellington Hardware Club, on May 24, and a sub-committee was elected to carry out all arrangements. On .Thursday week the club will play a football match with the Farmers' Co-operative Association. A subcommittee was elected to revise the present rules. It was decided to hold a social evening on the second Thursday in June.
