BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SYDENHAM. A. meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening; present— The Mayor and Councillors Cutler, Bell, Jacques, Lafferty, Dayo, Sim, Young, Hadfield, Taylor, Halley, Murray and Mauhire. The Chief-Postmaster wrote regarding the late delivery of letters in Sydenham. The matter Lad been looked into, but ho regretted to state that no alteration could be made in tfie delivery, as other parts of tho borough would be inconvenienced. The letter was received. It was decided that the name of Horsley, Street should bo altered to Cecil Street. The Sydenham Swimming Club wrote, calling attention to the small flow of water to the bath,, and asking that a flow of water,used for flushing should be turned into the bath during the night. It was decided to forward the suggestion tq the School Committee. The Secretary of the Sydenham Brass Band wrote asking for the use of Sydenham Park, in which to play a programme of music on the evenings of Nov. 25 and 30. The request was granted, the Park to 100 closed at 9.30 p.m. Messrs Smith and R. Beckett waited on the Council with a requisition signed by forty residents in Sydenham asking that a gat© should be constructed at the south-east corner of Sydenham Park for the convenience of residents in that quarter of the borough. It was decided that the matter should be left in the hands of the Reserves Committee v\ itli power to act. The seal of the Council was affixed to a plan of Cecil Street. The Works Committee reported that it had asked the Hon J, T. Peacock, when subdividing his land, to reserve a strip of land off the bed of the creek for widening Crescent Road. Messrs Harman and Stevens had submitted a proposal to extend Disraeli Street to Windmill Road in lieu of altering Braddon Street extension. The committee thought the proposal much preferable to either of the previous proposals, and recommended that it should be approved. The report. was adopted. The Finance Committee reported the receipts for the past fortnight to have been £335 18s Id, and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £523 10s 7d. The credit accounts stood at £5656 4s.Bd, and the debit on general account at £3438 19s 6d. The report was adopted. Tenders were accepted for forming Spencer and Macaulay Streets, and for 32 chains of Tennyson Street, Sydenham, at £27 5s and £65 6s 6d respectively. The meeting then terminated.
