CYCLING.

LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND WHEELMEN. A meeting’ of the executive of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held in the Clarendon Hotel last evening; present— Messrs W. E. Thompson (chairman), W. G. Atack, J. H. Tompkins, G. Milne, G. H. Lethaby and W. G. Williams. Au apalogy for absence was received from Mr A. R. Kirk. The following records were passed : —O. Hallberg, Masterton to Greytawn, 15 miles, 31xnin, Masterton to Peatherstone, 24 miles, 52min, May 9; J. Grant, 3 miles, Lancaster Park, 6min 43 5-sth sec.. May 2. The Christchurch Cycling Club wrote, forwarding the names of several competitors who had not paid their entrance fees in connection with the Good Friday meeting. After discussion, it was decided to inform the club that the matter was outside the jurisdiction of the League. The Secretary of the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club wrote, explaining fully the present position of the club as affected by the formation of an athletic club in that town. It was decided to affiliate the club under its present constitution. In regard to a communication received from Mr Woon, secretary of the Wanganui and West Coast Cycling Club, it was resolved that the action of the club, on its own admission, in endeavouring to form a North Island executive was calculated to create dissension in the League, and was deserving of the severest censure;/ also, that the (Secretary of the League should be instructed to write to. all those North Island affiliated.clubs, which replied to the League’s circular, thanking them for information forwarded, and for their expressions ot" loyalty to the League. The Chairman) drew attention to the fact that a League rider had recently been publicly issuing challenges to make matches against other ridefs for stakes and gate money. _ It was decided to notify riders that such action was contrary to League rules. Mr Lethaby moved, Mr Atack seconded, .and it was carried, that the secretaries of affiliated clubs should be written to, asking them to make specially suitable arrangements with hotelkeepers for the accommodation of League members during the racing'season.
