The following meetings will be held today :—Canterbury Rugby Union Committee, Clarendon Hotel, 5 p.m.; Women’s Christian Temperance Union, ac rooms, Gloucester Street, to discuss the matter of Maori work, 8 p.m.; Liberty League, quarterly meeting, Art Gallery, 8 p.m.; St Albans Literary and Musical Society,. 8 p.m., address by Mr H. G. Ell on “ Municipal Government.” 1 The Supreme Court criminal sittings will be continued at 10 a.m. to-day. The Arbitration Court will continue its sittings at tho Provincial Council Chambers at 10.30 a.m. to-day, and the Conciliation Board will sit in the Land Board room in the Government Buildings at 11 a.m. to-day to further consider the dispute in the baking arid confectionery trades. : ; ■ The Christchurch Beautifying Association will initiate the planting on Lane’s’ Mill Island at 2 pan. to-day, when the Mayor and Mrs Louisson will be present. , The committee in connection with the ;benefit concert in aid'of the widow andfamily of the late J. Toomer met last night, and reported having waited on Mr Roach, late of Williamson and Musgrove’s Opera Company, who ' had kindly consented to assist at the coming concert. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society will be held in the rooms of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association to-morrow at 3 p.m. The anniversary of the Richmond Methodist Church will be celebrated this evening by a miscellaneous concert and a coffee supper. A return social-gathering will be given to the dairymen at the Art Gallery this evening. A meeting of parishioners will be held in St Mary’s Schoolroom, Addington, tomorrow evening, for the purpose of forming a branch of the Christian Social Union, when the Bishop of Christchurch will give an address. The handicaps for the Post and Telegraph Winter Handicap Race are advertised in this issue. The first concert of the present-season of the Christchurch Motett Society will be held to-night, in the Choral : Hall. The programme consists of “Phraudrig Crohoore,” “Acis and Galatea,” and part songs. “Phraudrig Crohoore” is set wholly for the chorus, while “Acis and Galatea” contains numerous solos. The soloists will be Misses Shanks, Gray and Hardey, Messrs Puschel and W. A. HalL To Miss Shanks is allotted the part of Galatea, to Mr Puscbel that of Acis, while the part of the monster Polyphemus falls to Mr W. A. Hall.
