United Press Association—By Electric’Telegraph— Copyright. THE CHINA STATION. LONDON, May 30. H.M.S. Barfleur will replace H.M.S. Grafton as flagship on the China station. Captain Fisher, late of the Orlando, will take command of the Grafton. AN ADDRESS ON TEMPERANCE. LONDON, May 30. The Archbishop of Canterbury delivered an address on temperance before the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. The Moderator warmly thanked him. for the address, and said that if the memory of events which kept the communions apart were buried in oblivion the force of spiritual attraction would bring the churches nearer. THE PACIFIC CABLE. OTTAWA, May 29. In the Canadian House of Commons, in reply to a question whether any advance had been made in the negotiations for laying a Pacific cable, Sir R. J. Cartwright, Minister of Trad© and Commerce, said he had not abandoned hope of success, although Australia was far more distinctly interested in the matter than Canada. A DUEL. PARIS,. May 29. A duel with swords was fought in Paris between M. Rochefort, the well-known journalist, and M. Geranlt-Richard. M. Rochefort was wounded in the breast. The meeting arose out of a newspaper quarrel. A FRENCH EXPEDITION. The Paiis paper “ Politique Colonial ” states that the French expedition to the Upper Nile regions under Baron de Bouchamp has reached the Nile and hoisted the Abyssinian flag.
