CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, Sept. 6. (Before Mr R. M. Taylor, J.P., Mr J. M. Thompson, J.P., and Mr W. W. Tanner, J.P.) Drunkenness. —For this offence John Thompson was fined 10s, with the alternative of forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.— A first offender who had been remanded for medical treatment, was discharged on payment of £1 3s costs ; in default, fourteen days’ imprisonment.—Another first offender was fined ss, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. (Before Mr R. Beetham, S.M.) Civil Cases.— Judgment was given for the plaintiffs by default with costs in the following cases : —D. Stranaghan v. W. H. Thorn, claim =£lo 10s ; Christchurch Press Company v.J.E.Hurdley, £4 Is; H. Cotterill and R. Westenra v. G. Dyhrberg, .£5; Munday and Son v. H. Pritchard, £5 18s Id, —Collie Bros, v J. Lukey, claim =213 13s 7d on judgment summons. Mr Cresswell appeared for the judgment creditors and Mr Kippenberger for the debtor. After the examination of the debtor, his 'Worship said ho could make no order.—ln the case of J, R. Charlton v. J. Lea, in which judgment had been previously given for the defendant, Mr Flesher, on behalf of the plaintiff, applied for are-hearing. Mr Joyce, for the defendant, opposed the application, which was refused with costs.—Allinson, Sniaiil and Co. v. T. Perks, claim ,£l3. Mr Caygill, for the defendant, applied for a change of venue; Mr M’Connel for the plaintiff's contra. A change of venue to Ashburton was granted. TCAIA.POI. Monday, Sept. 6. (Before Mr Bishop, S.M.) Civil Cases.— J. B. Atkinson (Mr Donnelly) v. Hay Smith (Mr Papprill). This was a. case in which the Magistrate was asked to detine the kind of fence that should bo erected between the properties of the parties, and was adjourned for a week with a view to a settlement.—George Croll (Inspoctorof Machinery) v. Richard Belcher. This case,was adjourned from last May for argument on law points. Defendant was fined la, without costs. —Dr Murray v. George Pateman, claim £9 2s. Judgment for plaintiff for amount and costs by default.
