A man named Deelonet shot his wife through the head at a hotel in Bathurst. The woman is still alive. One of her eyes has been removed. There is little hope of her recovery. The deed is alleged to bo duo to infidelity. THE SQUADRON.

H.M.S. Mildura leaves here about Sept. 21 to relieve the Pylades at Auckland.

The Admiral has received a cable message from the Admiralty announcing the appointment of Admiral Pearson to the Australian station, with the Royal Arthur as flagship. No reason is assigned for the withdrawal of the Minerva. The former is a first-class cruiser, and the Minerva belongs to the second-class. SUICIDE. There was a sensational suicide at Potts’ Point to-day. The body of a young man named Heath was discovered in a rooSn. He had a shot through the head, and was grasping a revolver in one hand. There were razor gashes on the breast and one wrist. The word persecuted ” was written in blood upon the wall with a finger, and the man had evidently gashed his wrist to obtain the blood. MELBOURNE, Sept. 6, The Mayor of Ballarat declined to welcome Mr Ben Tillett, on the ground of the disloyalty of Mr Tillett and certain members of the Assembly at a dinner at South Melbourne, when the toast of the Queen was contemptuously treated.
