PIONEER BICYCLE CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING. Judges, Messrs M. S. Brown, J. 11. Parker and F. Denby; referee, Mr P. Cooper; timekeepers, Dr Jennings, Messrs A. Lowry, A. E. Preece and W. J. S. Hayward ; starter, Mr J. C. Cusack; honorary secretary, Mr J. C. Baldwin. The Pioneer Bicycle Club was favoured with a bright sunny afternoon for the autumn meeting, at Lancaster Park, yesterday, although a strong nor’-wester militated somewhat against the enjoyment of spectators and competitors. Towards the close of the meeting the wind veered round to the south-west and rendered the atmosphere bitterly cold. The attendance was smaller than was anticipated, no more than about 500 people being present. The events were conducted with a due regard to punctuality, the only delays being attributable to slight and unavoidable mishaps. Tho various officials worked well, but apart from the multicycle race—the first of its kind in New Zealand —and a couple of good finishes, there was nothing that provoked much public interest. H. Thompson was frustrated in his attempt to lower J. O. Shorland’s onemile amateur record of 2min ll’sec, on account of his being declared a professional under the rules of the New Zealand Cyclists Alliance, for riding records when paced by cash riders. Shorland made the attempt himself, paced by four riders on the multicycle, but found them of little or no use to him, and occupied 2min IWsec on the journey. After tho meeting was over, Thompsoncame out and was splendidly paced by cash riders on a triplet, and succeeded in lowering the time by 2sec. There wore one or two minor casualties during the afternoon, although nothing serious occurred. Just past the winning post in the Halfmile Handicap, a dog ran across the track in front of J. W. Jones, bringing him down heavily. Ho was assisted into the pavilion, but although cut and bruised a good deal he fulfilled his other engagements most pluckily. The chain of the tandem in the Multicycle Eace snapped at the start, and another machine was procured, and a tyre of the' multicycle burst as the riders were proceeding to the starting place to pace J. W, Jones in the’ three-mile record
